St. John Calabria Feast Day Celebrated at San Lorenzo Ruiz Parish, Taytay

Taytay: On October 8, 2024, the San Lorenzo Ruiz Parish in Taytay, Rizal, celebrated the Feast Day of St. John Calabria, founder of the Poor Servants of Divine Providence (PSDP).

The day started with a procession within the San Lorenzo Ruiz area. Then, the Solemn Mass followed and was presided over by Rev. Fr. Marvin Tadena, PSDP, along with several other Calabrian priests serving in Taytay, Rizal. Students from the Calabrian Formation School, employees from the Bro. Francisco Perez Clinic, and members of the San Lorenzo Ruiz Parish Chapels joined the Eucharistic Celebration.

In his homily, Fr. Tadena highlighted the faith of St. John Calabria, emphasizing his complete trust and abandonment to God the Father. He referenced the words of Jesus in Matthew’s Gospel: "Look at the birds in the sky... your heavenly Father feeds them." St. John lived this faith, free from anxiety about life’s uncertainties, trusting that God would always provide.

Fr. Marvin reflected on how St. John Calabria's unwavering trust in God's providence serves as an example to everyone. He also encouraged the faithful to live out this same trust in their own lives: "Your heavenly Father knows... Seek first the Kingdom of God." He stressed that St. John was a divine instrument, and that the faithful are called to follow his charisma by becoming instruments of goodness themselves, without fear.

After the Mass, everyone had lunch and a fruitful conversation at the Calabrian Formation School court. It is indeed a day of meaningful celebration of St. John Calabria’s Feast Day.
