50th Anniversary of the Sisters’ Mission

Cagayan de Oro City: The Religious Sisters of the Poor Servants of Divine Providence celebrates this year the 50th anniversary of the sending of their first missionaries outside Italy. To celebrate this momentous event, a solemn mass was offered during the culmination of their annual retreat in thanksgiving to this gracious gift. Before the start of the mass, Sr. Rosella Chiavegatto, PSDP gave a short introduction about the significance of this event to the life and mission of the PSDP Sisters.

On May 11, 1974, four sisters - namely, Sr. Gemma Consolaro, Sr. Maria Sponda, Sr. Carmela Perlini (+), and Sr. Anna Martini (+) - departed from the port of Genoa going to Brazil. Upon their arrival, they immediately catered to the needs of the people, working in many social and pastoral activities.

Fast forward to the present, the fruits of their labor resulted to the emergence of numerous religious communities and activities not only in Brazil, but also in Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay, India, Angola and the Philippines.
